Vancouver to Squamish  (67 km)

With the completion of the upgrades to Highway 99, Squamish is now closer to Vancouver that ever before.  Depending on traffic and road conditions, and how you drive, of course, the commute time from Downtown Squamish to Downtown Vancouver can be less than 50 minutes.  The drive is also much more spectacular that the drive in from other areas around Vancouver such as the Fraser Valley, with light traffic, and amazing Ocean and Mountain Views a great improvement for many over the bumper to bumper crawl on Highway 1.

Much of the Highway between the West Vancouver and Squamish now has passing lanes, and the notorious sharp corners have been straightened out – removing the most objectionable parts of the old Highway.  Rumble strips, concrete barriers and reflective road markings make the Highway safer than ever.

If you need to commute to Vancouver, whether it is one day a week, or 5, you will be in good company as approximately 1,000 people per day make the journey (based on MoT traffic counts and estimates).

Greyhound Coach – Vancouver to Squamish

Beyond driving, there are other commuting options, including the Greyhound Bus.  If you buy multiple trips to Vancouver through the Greyhound office, the cost of a trip can be less than $7 each way – easily cheaper than your parking would cost.

The District of Squamish is also actively looking for ways to improve the transportation options between Vancouver and Squamish and recently conducted a survey of Squamish-Vancouver commuters to see who is going where, and when.

Car Pooling

With so many people going from Squamish into Vancouver, finding a car pooling or ride share option from Squamish to Vancouver is usually not a problem if your schedule and destination are not too unique.  The Jack Bell Foundation runs many cars and Vans from Vancouver to Squamish, and many people set up their own, informal ride shares.
