Squamish Oceanfront Development

A Blank Slate on a Spectacular Oceanfront Setting

The one piece of land that has the greatest opportunity to reshape and remake Squamish is the Oceanfront Land owned by the District of Squamish.  A planning process is underway, and a draft plan is expected soon.

There has been substantial community involvement in the process, as well as an expert team created in order to come up with the best, most viable plan for this land which will be a jewel for the community for decades to come.

The key principles of the planning process that were adopted include public access to the waterfront, Economic Viability and Vitality, and creating a place where a wide range of people can meet, work, and live.  The objective it to create a commplete communtiy that contributes to Squamish and is a model for Green development that protects and enhances the natural environment.

Possible facilities that are under discussion are marine employment lands, a conference centre, and a cruise ship terminal.

The planning process for the Squamish Oceanfront Lands is also taking place in co-operation with the "Peninsula Landowner's Colaborative" which seeks to plan the development of other large pieced of land on the Squamish Downtown peninsula, particularly pieces owned by Westmana and BC Rail.

The Squamish Oceanfront Lands are a former chemical processing site and ownership was transfered from the Province of British Columbia to the District of Squamish in 2004 for a few dollars.

Status: Planning process underway.  A draft plan should be released in 2009.

Garibaldi at Squamish

One of the most exciting opportunities for Squamish is the proposed Garibaldi at Squamish Ski Resort which will be located just a few kilometres to the north if it is approved by the Provincial Government.  The project will add jobs, recreation, and property tax base to Squamish, and be an important driver of future growth.

The story of a proposed ski resort on Garibaldi’s Brohm Ridge, situated 13 km. from downtown Squamish, is arguably as old as Whistler, dating back to 1959.  A few things have happened since then!

From the beginning of the quest to create a mountain resort on Garibaldi, one of the primary purposes has been to give this primarily warm-weather recreational region an equally compelling winter component.  The proposed Garibaldi at Squamish Mountain Resort will give residents and visitors from around the world a first-class skiing and resort experience. The mountain villages will include quality hotels and restaurants, and plenty of Ski In – Ski Out accommodation. Now in the British Columbian government’s environmental assessment process, approvals are expected in spring 2010.

Garibaldi at Squamish will provide two decades or more of construction work for Squamish residents – creating quality jobs close to home.  Once the resort is operational, thousands more local jobs will be created at all income levels.  Many residents who currently commute to Whistler will have opportunities to work closer to home, as will new residents of Squamish.  The proposal will balance economic, social and environmental values to deliver significant long-term economic and social benefits.

 Crumpit Woods

Crumpit Woods is planned as 110 spacious, secluded single family building lots located in the forested Valleycliffe region of Squamish.

The Stawamus Chief stands sentinel over the neighbourhood, and the large network of local trails give immediate access to the great outdoors and the many other activities Squamish has to offer.

Immediate local amenities include two elementary schools, the regional hospital and a shopping precinct. Crumpit Woods is a short drive to downtown Squamish, and even closer to two provincial parks, the beautiful Shannon Falls, and expansive Howe Sound.

The ethos behind Crumpit Woods means focusing on green building practices and techniques while allowing residents and investors the space and freedom to build their dream homes.

Set just off the Sea to Sky highway in the heart of Squamish, Crumpit Woods represents quintessential Squamish living, offering effortless access to everything the region offers, all from a quiet natural retreat between the oceans and mountains.

Crumpit Woods offers the kind of lifestyle that families dream about.  A sense of community, a pristine, natural environment, year round activities, affordability, small town living and a solid investment.
